We spent two weeks at Peter and Anneli’s Maria Vihar
house over Christmas 2008, 10 minutes from Kovalam in stunningly
beautiful Kerala.
Our plan was originally to visit Thailand or Vietnam, but given the
opportunity for our family of eight to spend the holiday together, we
decided to go for exciting India and Maria Vihar instead.
It turned into possibly the best holiday of our lives. The food, the
beach and the hustle and bustle of Kovalam, Ayurvedic massage and oil
treatments, witch-doctors who rid us of all imaginable (and
unimaginable) ailments.
...And all just a quick rickshaw ride away from Maria Vihar, set at
the top of the hill and overseeing the Arabian sea.
At the house, all of us had our own bedroom, shower and bathroom. Our
personal yoga teacher visited every morning for a magical hour of
exercise on the balcony, with the ocean winds making their way through
the thick palm tree forest beneath us.
Maria Vihar offers all the comforts and amenities required by a
spoiled family like ours. Even so, the place exerted a back-to-basics
calm, shall we call it kharma, over us.
Both Kerala and Maria Vihar come highly recommended in every way imaginable.
